I don't remember this being the case (about having to take a car to the beach). There was a beach just off the pool in one direction, and another beach that required following a fairly steep staircase on the other side of the hotel. Maybe things have changed since I last stayed at Princeville.
RE: the rain - yes, it comes daily, but in my experience it was a 10 minute misting and then it was over. In fact, it seemed hit or miss whether the rain actually made it off the mountain and down to the hotel grounds.
