If you`re a US citizen, there`s often a much shorter line in the US preclearance area specifically for US citizens and green card holders. I haven`t done preclearance in T3 lately, but it used to be there, and there is one in T1. Be certain to ask the uniformed personnel directing passengers when you enter the preclearance area. That can save a lot of time.

I ended-up booking the BA to AA connection through YYZ with a 1:50 connection (3:50 PM - 5:40 PM). That is very sporty, I know. If we don;t make the flight, so be it, we'll get home eventually. As this flight is still 10 months away, I expect that schedules will change any way and we'll need to look at the connection at that time.
