The new business class flat seats have some downsides

"The seats are definitely an improvement over the previous C seats, almost as comfortable as the first generation first suite. It's a bit lumpy when made into a bed, but at least it goes to 180 degrees, which for me is the difference between being able to sleep and not (I'd have appreciated it more on the overnight outbound!)... The window seats seem to be considerably more private, but unless you're a contortionist you'd be pretty well trapped if the aisle seat is lowered into a bed. Also, there's no storage space in any seat for takeoff / landing; everything has to go into an overhead bin..."

I just came back from an ORD-LHR flight that used the new business class seats and I have mixed views. As the writer above stated, the seat is lumpy when made into a bed - my impression was that it was very lumpy to the point of being uncomfortable - I wonder if that is a function of height in terms of where the seat connections hit you - I am only 5'3". I also found them very narrow and can't imagine how a large, broad shouldered man could be comfortable. You have to have your arms right at your sides or over your head or folded on your chest. When I mentioned this to a flight attendant, she said that when passengers are asleep, it looks like a room full of coffins, and to me, that's what it felt like. Although I'm sure I'm in the minority, I was actually more comfortable on the return flight with the old style recliners.

The lack of underseat storage space was annoying, but understandable. Also, grab an aisle seat if at all possible. I had the window and as the previous writer said, you are pretty much trapped in your seat when the aisle seat is lowered into a bed. Maybe not a problem if you are tall with long legs and can easily step over the sleeping person but a bit more difficult if you are short.

I also had problems with the entertainment. When there was a PA override, the movie I was watching "disappeared" and I then had to start and fast forward, which is a drag if you are an hour plus into the movie when it happens and even more annoying the third time around.
