Note that this is not a very good use of miles. The ticket can be bought for cash for under $400, with many fare sales likely between now and then
My question is, are frequent flyer seats ever added to a flight? Should I watch to see if anything wil open up? Does it ever happen?
If you need several tickets, best bet is to go ahead and get them booked on separate flights in the same timeframe (i.e. on two different flights leaving approximately the same time). Then at least you're booked, and you can check back later to see if more seats open up so that the entire party can get on the same exact flight.
