I just mentioned that same thing in a different post, and have the same feelings. A store that doesn't want to take Amex (especially one that once did) can lose my business altogether, rather than losing a few extra bucks in the transaction.
Absolutely agree. In the DC area, the grocery store Bloom! (used to be Safeway?) doesn't take AMEX. They've renovated most of their stores and are very well appointed. They receive exactly zero business from me because they don't accept AMEX.
