The PP card makes it much easier as it's only £10k spend in a year, and you can get a free card for your wife too.

There are lots of places that don't accept Amex, but generally I find the places where I spend the most, i.e. Tesco, Boots, Rail stations, Department Stores, etc. accept it without any trouble.
