I don't understand it, but...... being in the hospitality trade it's one of my favourite subjects when I sit down with various representatives of the larger companies.
Given that there is a large kleptomaniacal streak running through the population, regardless of wealth etc, a few enlightened souls in the marketing world have managed to persuade the powers that be in their respective client list/company that this is a wonderful opportunity!
Design a fabulous glass, plate, (no longer ashtrays), brand them (in subtle way) and quietly turn a blind eye when they start to walk out the door by ensuring there is a plentiful stock of replacements at hand.
Permanent advertising in peoples homes.......
