Not all flights are part of round trips.

Eg work takes you to A, and you need to be at B the following week (for work), you could take a mileage run A to B through C (and D and E and ... you get the idea) without returning to your home base Z.

My own records measure in terms of number of flights because trip or round trip becomes meaningless with my crazy schedule.
