Both of these hotels are older properties that have been converted to Marriotts.....with the Wailea one having just completed a long-term renovation that was intended to allow them to increase rates....as well as (I think) make up for the closing of the former neighbor Renaissance property. If you've got kids, I think you'll find that you're happier paying the premium at the Wailea hotel, as the beach and activities are superior to the Big Island property. But don't expect cheap eats.....Maui's restaurants (and especially anything in the Wailea neighborhood) tend towards the higher end of the scale. Unless, of course, fast food is the order of the day.
