United to decide soon on pay raise for mechanics

Money-losing United Airlines, stuck between a rock and a hard place, will answer by the end of Tuesday a special board's recommendations to give mechanics a hefty pay raise, which the No. 2 U.S. carrier has said it cannot afford.
