The crew were great and very apologetic. I really can't think of anything the crew could have done better. They informed both US and Canada customs of the situation. This made customs screening almost informal. We did have to fill out a 2nd US customs form but no form was necessary for Canada customs. Canada customs just wanted to see our passport and boarding pass and let us pass without question. The US customs folks were almost as informal.
From a security perspective I'm glad that the plane had to be searched and the pax re-screened. I know there's really not much of a risk of anything happening on a YOW-ORD flight, and it was an inconvenience fall all involved, but better safe than sorry. And I still got to SEA on time! I didn't get a chance to ask the GAs in ORD (they just shuffled me onto the plane without even checking my ID) but I think they must have kept the door to the SEA flight open longer than usual because they knew 2 people were coming in from the delayed YOW flight.

Because you do not have status on UA, I would expect a voucher of $125 for future travel on UA.
We didn't actually get a physical skykit. The FA said one was being filled in on behalf of us all and that we should eventually hear from UA regarding the skykit. Should I have actually asked for a physical skykit?
