I'll make a partial reply here - and what you do depends on your predilections, of course. But a car, especially one with high clearance, gives you leeway to explore several national parks and reserves in Guanacaste province, drive to beaches and to head up to the cloud forest reserve (unpaved but drivable road unless it is raining and you do not have 4WD) at
Monteverde.

Are there other things to do around the property that would make renting a car valuable? If I am just going to go to the hotel then I may arrange a shuttle, etc. but if there are other things I would drive to then I would probably rent the car. Does the hotel have an activity desk where you can book tours, etc or are you better off doing that on your own?
