An other thing to consider is that UA is not 100% sure that you'll keep this F ticket rather than ask for a refund later on.
This being said, I got bitten by the new rules last week, which resulted in UA keeping $500 of my money while rendering no service to me at all.
This will, without a doubt, increase revenue in the short term. It is also building a phenomenal reservoir of bad will amongst UA's best customers.
