Is your statement regarding separate tickets (in which case I'd agree, they're unlikely to do it) or where there has been tickets purchased that NZ have sold, and include the non-Star airline?

I know for sure that NZ will interline to AA on LAX-MIA when sold as a through ticket (e.g. AKL-LAX-MIA); so I would think if it was a single NZ ticket (i.e. 086 stock) with a BA sector that they would interline the baggage.
