I was getting my shoes shined and asked the gal why, she said it is because the airport wants travelers out in the terminal where the slots are, and they won't let AA or any of the other airlines put their clubs in the airport.
I find it interesting that the OP would ask a shoe-shiner about airport issues. Obviously her answer was wrong since US has operated a lounge in LAS for years.
