Get two heavy-duty 30gal garbage bags with the thickest mil you can find (one for each way), remove from the box, and stuff immediately into a sandwich zip-lock bag (hasn't opened yet, and they stay small in the zip-lock). If you have to, tie it closed at the airport. You'll use it either way, at you desintation. Just in case they don't have any bags when you get there.

Infant Seat - pretty big. My older daughter is 4, so we're going to have her just sit in a seat, but need the carseat for the car when we get there.

I'm mainly concerned about fabric tears (i.e. snags, etc.) - and we don't want to bother buying a custom duffel-type bag (not worth it for this trip). I realize that plastic isn't going to prevent any kind of problems, but keeping it dry, and providing a reasonable amount of protection against tears is probably good enough.

Sounds like my best bet is to have some bags myself, easily accessible just in case. I have some contractor trash bags - pretty thick stuff. That with some packing tape should be a decent backup plan if they don't have anything for me at the counter....

Thanks for the tips.
