The ferry through the Gulf Islands to Tsawwassen is one of the great rides - flying and you really miss it. Passing through the cut by Mayne Island is simply amazing on the largest boats with multiple props - and spinning around into the dock is a wonder. The bus makes it easy or rent a car. With a car you might also drive north of Nanaimo and take the ferry to Horseshoe Bay and approach Vancouver via the Lions Gate Bridge.
