I believe you are thinking of something else. Perhaps something like a gift certificate. I suppose that might have been called Air Currency at some time, but what we are talking about are free drink coupons (which formerly also included free headset rental before they made them all free).

There were various forms of these...1K Air Currency, and the Customer Service Air Currency and Downgrade Air Currency, high yield travel agents and corporate travel planners also get supplies of these to hand out to their customers/employees.

Here's an example of:

Top: 1K Air Currency
Middle: Comp Air Currency (Travel Agent, etc)
Lower: Purchased Air Currency (that was just discontinued in the subject of this thread)

...which I once sold the set of just the 3 as a "collectable" on eBay for over $50 as a proof to associates of how a well written item description could greatly increase the perceived value of an item.
