Connecting from BA to AA or AC Jazz at YYZ -- Reality Check?

Hi All,

I am in the process of setting-up an award ticket that includes a segment from LHR to North America. I can fly direct from LHR to JFK on AA, followed by a 2.5 hour car ride to my house, or I can fly BA from LHR to YYZ and connect to Air Canada Jazz for a direct flight to my home city, Hartford. A third option is to connect to AA and fly to LGA.

I know that in any of these situations, I would need to clear Canadian Immigration & Customs and U.S. Immigration & Customs, plus security. The only AA flight to LGA that makes sense for me to take leaves 1:50 after my BA flight from LHR would arrive (3:50 PM - 5:40 PM). This seems like too short a connection, is this correct?

It looks like AA and BA are in the same terminal (Terminal 3), but taking Air Canada Jazz would require a transfer to Terminal 1. How much time between flights should I leave if I take this option?

Thanks!
