I'm still trying to find ways to fly business from lax/sfo/yvr to akl in business class without flying thru SYD.

As it appears almost impossible to get award space in business, I was looking for the use of upgrades or 2/1.

Does anyone know what buckets are used for:

upgrades using LH miles?

Companion tickets using NZ Airpoints?

Amex 2/1 tickets?

Since we usually connect from the eastern part of the US, the idea is to avoid the 30 + hour flights.

Is it easier to get awards from LHR to AKL?
