Sheraton Waikiki observations 4/2008
Into the Hotel for two nights. A couple of things. Self serve parking is up to $20 per night. It seems like HSIA access is up also to nearly $14 per night.
It looks like the renovation has ground to a halt. Problems with the contractor. They are searching for a new one. Therefore the suites have not been renovated nor some of the elevator bank areas even with the rooms being renovated on the floor such as ours.
The front desk made it very clear they had given us a five category room upgrade. Some things are best left unsaid and just appreciated.
Rumor. Has it after the renovation is completed you will see a club Lounge here. That would make sense since they have not started on the suites yet. It would be nice. Starwood is so weak in this area in Honolulu. We will move later to a hotel that does have one.
Lastly. We found a really good pork katsu. Moist and tasty. And they make it a point of letting you know you can have more rice, miso soup and cabbage. Their dressing is really good. The place is called Menchanko-Tei at 2225 Kuhio Avenue. Phone- 808 924 8366. My Japanese wife and I would highly recommend. I had a full meal and it was $16. Hers was half and like $10. If you can read Japanese there is a coupon for a free soft drink in the Japanese tourist magazine found all around Waikiki. We got a drink per person. I thought it was one per. It works.
We also went to our $1 theatre in "Restaurant Row". Another bargain. Boy do we sounds conservative.
BTW. The Hotel has two Japanese channels. But the local KIKU did not seem to be one of them. Regards from HNL. We are here for a couple nights and will post more. Thanks to the mod.
