I have a Toshiba HD-A2 player which I picked up for just over $100 USD new. Just as a regular DVD player it's a big improvement over my old player and the upscaled picture looks great. If I was in your situation, I'd try to find one of these players--I've seen them going for as little as $35 USD online--and hold off on Blu-ray for a while longer. You might want to pick up two as I don't see LG continuing to make their combo players for too much longer.
