A friend of mine was on a NW flight that had a mechanical. The mechanical resulted in an equipment change. After they boarded the new plane (not sure if I can use new plane and NW in the same context, but anyways...), the FA's went down the aisles and gave every pax a food voucher and a coupon for a discount towards a future purchase on NW.
