One important thing to consider is that I don't think the first generation LG dual-format player is Profile 1.1 compatible.

Honestly, I'd consider getting a PS3 and a highly discounted dedicated HD-DVD player as an alternative strategy.

Though really, I'd first consider just getting a PS3 and only buying Blu-Ray media, especially if you're considering building a long-term library of movies.
