I am (unfortunately) becoming somewhat of a regular on UA 117 (the OP's flight), and last Friday the GA announced ahead of time that they would not be selling any food on the plane. (and I DO think this is a recent change).
Tuesday (4/14) they made no such announcement, but of course there were no snack boxes.

It's an 8:10 departure and about a 4 hour ride, but when connecting in O'Hare, you often don't have a lot of time to stock up, so I dread the day when I get pinched due to "Flight Operations" and have to make it all the way home on my emergency ration (i.e. Clif Bar).
