No snack boxes on late flights?

On Wed 4/15 I flew CUN-ORD-SEA and was on the 8:10pm departure to SEA in F. I know very well that after 8pm UA only serves the fruit/cheese plate but I was on vacation when my upgrade cleared and I just totally forgot to order a lowfat meal which would have been more substantial.. and I also forgot that the flight was after 8pm until I was sitting in my seat on the plane and then it hit me that all I was going to get was fruit/cheese. I hadn't eaten since 1pm that day and I was hungry.

The fruit/cheese plate arrived and it was one of the lousy skimpy ones.. 2 small pieces of cheese, some grapes, sour blueberries, and 2 kinds of melon that I don't like. So afterwards I asked the FA if I could get one of the snack boxes from coach and she said they weren't selling any in coach.. I was pretty shocked at that. Is that normal? I thought they always sold the snack boxes on longer flights regardless of the time of day?? Only on transcons?

Needless to say, I was pretty p.o.'d about it. The FA was really nice and I had a nice talk with her..she said she was also surprised there were no boxes for sale in Y. Since there was no food.. I drank my way to SEA
