IMHO the Sofitel is not in the same class as the others. It is in a great location for shopping however. But if you do want some history and some celeb sightings, then you might also want to check out the Chateau Marmont. Great views, nice rooms and a good scene. Also, the new Thompson Beverly Hills is very close to Rodeo, but again, it is more of a "scene" hotel than luxury, and to be honest, I do not think it is completely open yet.
