There are alot of comments about miles not being cash well I beg to differ to a certain extent. Have a look at all Airline balance sheets and you will see miles in there. Infact another board member even pointed out that AA earn 1 billion USD (I cannot vouch for the correct amount but it was a mind blowing amount) in sold miles last year alone - so if the airlines are selling miles they need to be treated the same way.
You will get no argument from me that this is a short sighted or penny wise and pound fool tacktic by the airlines since there are so many miles out there that it would bankrupt the airline if everyone could actually use their milage.
However airlines issue their "price" when they post the milage charts and if they accept the deal and ticket then they are in and if they change their minds then the airline also has to pony up.
I would think in this case SIA is simply trying to see how far they can get away with it. If we passengers accept everything with merely a grumble - they are going to start trying to get away with even more. Therefore I think it is fair that affected passengers do rapp them over the knuckles for it.
