Air Asia priority boarding situation
Air Asia, the largest budget airline in the region doesn't have a frequent flyer program, but the closest thing they offer is to be able to pre-board, for a fee, which is about $5 per flight segment. Those that pay the fee are allowed to basically be the first ones to board, and can presumably pick out the best seats on the plane. (exit row, bulkhead in the front, etc.)
It's a reasonable fee, but not always a good thing to do. I saw some people wearing the stickers that they had paid the fee be the first to board... THE BUS going to the plane. When the bus arrived at the plane, lots of people just pushed past them, and were actually the first to board. This occurred in Bangkok airport, where Air Asia doesn't always use actual attached terminal gates.
So I would suggest asking at check in, if the plane has a gate, or if paying the fee will simply allow you to be the first on the BUS to the plane. Total waste of money.
Otherwise, Air Asia is a great company.
