My recently booked *A award tix for June/July has a return of MUC-LHR-ORD-PDX, which I thought was a quite odd. The outbound is the customary PDX-FRA-etc., which makes sense. The inbound is just, well, weird. At the typical options are MUC-FRA-PDX or MUC-IAD-PDX or MUC-ORD-PDX. The LHR leg makes no sense. Wonder what's up?
Not sure what you're getting at here. You booked an award ticket, where availability is scarce, dynamic, and effected by married segments. You have a LHR connection because that's where a seat was open; its irrelevant of how much fuel it costs to fly you, how much fuel costs at MUC vs LHR, etc.
