Yes, they sell the XT body only, and I would highly recommend NOT getting the 18-55 unless you get the IS. I have just never used the 18-55.

As for the original question, I love my XT... its a great introduction until you get good.

You may consider going around the Photography forums, as many people sell perfect condition XTs when upgrading to the next level, and can find some near free models.
