One of the reasons a lot of us do get compelled to retain status is that a lot of our travel is due to work. So a combination of trying to feel as comfortable as possible when travelling for work, together with the fact that work pays for the travel, makes us want to make the most of our trips.

I know this is not the case for everyone, but I think it accounts for a fair amount of people on FT.
