It is not a real connect perse. The Shinjuku train joins with the Yokohama train at Tokyo station to make a single train onward to NRT. So it is a slightly longer stop allowing the two sections to join. If a passenger enters the wrong section at Tokyo station, they will not be able to get to their assigned seat once under way.
