And as anyone who is married will attest, if traveling with the wife, we're either both flying in F or both flying in Y. (I'd offer her the seat, of course, but she'd rather sit with me in Y than be split up). For me, same thing if I'm traveling with co-workers...I don't upgrade if they don't get upgraded--just a personal courtesy, which I'm sure many will disagree with me on--then again, it hasn't been an issue on UA...My 100% success on upgrades include 8-10 companion flights--all either clearing at the 100-hour window or sometime BEFORE the 'battlefield'. I'm yet to have to go to the gate sweating it as a 1K in the last 3 years.
