I agree. Not everyone knows this is going to happen (only we FT readers, I suspect) and it is inexcusable not to be told when the move occurs, especially if you quite unnecessarily end up seated away from you companion because you didn't find out until it was too late.
Apart from that, I think the gripe is without merit. The rules are pretty clear and quite reasonable imo (and I am not an Emerald).
