I would fly out of LAX (preferably to SYD). Flagship Lounge at T4 is much better than the BA F lounge at SFO. And if flying into LAX on AA it is hassle free connection (whereas SFO requires check in landside and clear security for international terminal). Note if flying QF LAX-MEL/BNE/AKL-MEL these leave from TBIT. You can use Flagship Lounge first (only if arriving on AA) but will have to change terminals to TBIT well before boarding.
