Why not use one of the baggage services then? Much cheaper than the USAir charges. I use DHL.
I will look into that. I am not actually moving yet.....that comes this winter. I will be hiring a mover for that. In the past I have always paid to fly and have gotten used to bringing 3 bags to DC for the summer. This years fares are much much higher than usual. Right now the fare is $569 + taxes r/t for the 412 mile flight (several weeks out)

Thanks for your advice. I knew status would not apply anywhere else. A couple of the agents seem to always recognize me so hopefully they'll be nice and let me check the 3rd bag. I wont even mention my status.
