Yesterday I flew for the first time on NW (MCI-SAN via MSP) and man, I hope NW gets some major cabin upgrades.
No audio/video AT ALL on either leg. Uncomfortable cloth slimline seats, single drink service with zero free snacks (and water-only service before landing), only able to purchase pretty unhealthy snacks. They also served drinks and meals in FC from a cart.
Now I DID like the cabin layout of the A319 and DC-9, since I was in the bulkhead row, 5 on both flights. No hard wall in front of me between FC, so I had luggage storage space and could stretch out. Lots more seat pitch than even FC.
I didn't interact with FAs much, but they seemed friendly.
If the DL/NW merger results in the refreshed cabins and better food service I'm used to on DL, that will be a welcomed changed. But if they downgrade DL cabin service to NW levels, I'll be looking elsewhere.
One question I do have is about the NW partnership with Midwest airlines. They have non-stop service SAN-MCI, which I would like to use for award tickets post-merger. Do you think the combined airline would keep the agreement in place with Midwest? That would be a huge benefit for me, since I travel a lot to MCI for family and would enjoy non-stop service.
