I had always thought that it was so expensive to fly out of YYZ because travelers were financing the new terminal...a factor that i thought would not be relevant for flying into toronto island. it seems though that that is not accurate.
Does anyone know why the taxes are almost equally high at YTZ as at YYZ?

All of your standard fees and taxes (NavCan "surcharge", Security Charge, etc.) are the same. The only difference would lie in the AIF that is being charged since that is airport-specific, ie. each airport authority levies what it wants to levy -- the government has not put a cap on that amount.
