I could go on and on, but the key "secret" that you must posess is utmost patience, flexibility and determination. I finally was able to book SkySavers to Hawaii last week after checking almost every day for 8 months, pushing back the trip a year, flying the return portion in F partly on NW with two 3-hour layovers, staying a day longer and a week earlier than I wanted, having one of my reservations mysteriously changed an hour after booking necessitating a redposit of my miles and going through two arduous, half-hour-long-not-including-wait-time discussions on the phone with DL.
This was great information, but should we really have to jump through all these hoops just to spend our miles? Something is wrong with a system that requires us to check for SkySaver fares every day for 8-months, push our vacations out a year, do a dance and pray to the Delta gods just to redeem an award that we earned by spending large sums of money with their airline. I realize we're talking Hawaii here, but still come on!!! I guess its just a sign of the times as many experience the same frustration with other carriers, so I'm not "Delta bashing," just venting.
