OK. I'll restate.
The rules state that you can not, but if you try it and they don't ask for the cardholder to swing by the desk to show they are there, it will probably work. But more then once when the wife has checked in before me they have asked her to have me stop by to show I was there for credit.
So yes you can book her room, but it would have to be in your name or for the two of you. You shouldn't get any stay or points for it if you are not there if the hotel is following the rules, and some hotels will ask to see you when she checks in, but you may get the points and stay credit if they don't care.
