Ok it's midnight AEST and I have just made a last minute booking at the SOTP for a check-in for 12 hours time @ I have to attend a wedding in the City later that evening.

I am booked on a C+P stay and reserved a cityside n/s king room. The best rate is $264 so 4000 starpoints = $200 value (or 5cents per point).

Looking at room availability for the same period SPG shows 7 Executive Suites and at least 7 Executive Club n/s rooms available.

After reading this whole thread, and in reference to #85, we shall see what kind of upgrade I would receive as a Plat on C+P stay.

According to http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=660824 , post #2, ""Yes, elites receive the exact same benefits on an award stays vs. paid stays."" We shall see! ETA - 12hrs!
