I was watching arriving aircraft at T5A and T5B, pulling up to the stands, stopping 10 - 20 yards in front and then having to wait.
If my observation is correct, this is the cause of the departure delays at T5 at the moment.

I don't understand why the switch cannot be automated - like automatic garage doors. As aircraft crosses threshold dividing taxiway and stand, guidance is automatically activated
