Cleaning my Canon EOS

I have the original Canon EOS Digital Rebel (the pre "XT" model). It apparently has acquired dust on the sensor (or something like that - just what I'm told by friends). There are spots in the same places on my photos and also this distinct streak down the middle.

I looked at the manual from Canon and the option to put it in cleaning mode which would open this sensor up is just not in the menu. I even flashed my camera firmware to the latest from their site.

So, I'm wondering - if I just walk into like a Wolf/Ritz Camera is this something they can fix for me on the spot or is it an ordeal? I've had various mechanisms to clean it described to me and I'm not really comfortable tinkering with it on my own honestly.
