Lots of great places everywhere. But for something unique and very Indian, try Saravana Bhavan in NYC (other locations, google to get their website). South Indian veg food, very tasty but not typical. Restaurant in NYC is usually packed with Indians. I think it's based in MAA, because I remember having it a ton as a kid when visiting relatives there.
