I'd have to respectfully disagree with jeans being poor travel wear. I prefer to wear jeans when I'm traveling, whether it be by car, plane or train. Or a simple pair of solid colored drawstring pants that can double as pajamas if needed.
I'm not a fan of wearing formal clothes, though. It's been my experience that I can get just as much respect in a pair of nice jeans, a nice top and heels than if I was dressed in my suit. To me, it's not what you wear that demands respect. It's more in your attitude.
When I worked in Customer Service, I didn't care if a customer was dressed in their "Sunday best" or if you were in jeans that were well worn and had holes in the knees. If your attitude sucked, then you didn't get as good of service from me. And that's still the case in my current job. If your attitude is crappy, I can guarantee you that I'm not going to go to be all nicey-nice and drop everything to bend over backwards and kiss your butt.
So to the OP, wear what makes you comfortable and have a great attitude. If someone doesn't like what you're wearing, it's their problem.
