Looking at the local
underground information: The local U-Bahn station is Eschenheimer Tor, which happens to be the closest, i.e. just about 100 m away. You can easily change at Hauptwache which is just a few stations from the central station. You can also walk from Hauptwache. That takes about 3 more minutes.
If you buy a ticket for public transportation, then you are free to chose S-Bahn, U-Bahn, Streetcar and Bus. Changing the line or changing e.g. from S- to U-Bahn does not require any additional ticket or fee.
