Why should there be? The seats are 49" pitch. Apart from a few extra inches to allow Row 5 to recline without blocking the door, there isn't a massive difference to the other seats (although you obviously get less intrusion from the row in front reclining).

You can see for yourself in a video tour of the A321 mid-haul cabin in a YouTube clip that has been cunningly hidden in the mid-haul cabin configuration section of the Flying with bmi FAQ 6D is the seat to go for if you are travelling solo as you only have a crew jumpseat next to you.

Seriously, I've never been able to pre-assign in economy, even on long-haul, although perhaps I'm not asking the right people.
