Last month I was refused the free day pass despite having FL access (but was flying AA and not QF); told it was for AC members only now. Some staff might provide it as an informal benefit, esp. as there might be a riot by QF pax.
Actually I got the benefit flying on AA to HNL from LAX only a couple of months ago.
I have heard from my partner who travelled very recently that the system has recently changed and they now give out a password to access the wireless network so it seems you now need to ask for a password rather than ask for a T-Mobile card.
