I'll be in WT+ but I don't think JFK has dedicated check in desks. The NW ticket isn't really flexible either, unless I standby for an earlier flight.

My question is whether or not 4 hours is enough for the connection. A search suggests it is doable unless the flight to LGA is delayed a fair bit. Assuming it takes me an hour to get out of the airport at LGA, there's a Q33 at 19:15 arriving 19:45, then E train from Jackson Heights at 19:52 arriving 20:10, the AirTrain should get my to JFK by 20:30. Of course it could go horribly wrong... Is the shuttle bus between the airports likely to be faster than 1h15mins?

Hmm I think I've answered my own question and there is enough time to do it... Anyone thinks otherwise?
You'll have plenty of time, but you may not have plenty of time to take public transportation. The odds of your flight to LGA arriving on time are pretty bad. But even if you arrive two hours late (and the odds of your arriving within two hours of the scheduled time are very good), you'll still have two hours to collect your bags and get to JFK, but you'll have to take a taxi at that point.

If you do arrive on time and can get out of LGA within an hour (which should be easy to do), you should be fine taking the Q33 to the E to the AirTrain. Don't rely on the printed schedules -- I don't know how closely they're followed -- but all three run with sufficient frequency that it won't be an issue.
